Gamma Knife

The Leksell® Gamma Knife is the most advanced system available to treat brain tumors. Gamma Knife surgery, sometimes referred to as stereotactic radiosurgery, is a non-invasive method for treating brain disorders. The extreme precision of Leksell Gamma Knife makes it possible to administer a high radiation dose to the diseased area, minimizing the risk of damaging healthy tissue.

Gamma Knife surgery has many advantages. The risk of complications, as compared to open surgery, is less and it is a gentler form of treatment for the patient. Gamma Knife surgery can normally be performed in a day, and the convalescence time is extremely short.

To date, some 400,000 patients around the world have undergone Gamma Knife surgery and each year more than 35,000 patients receive this treatment. Today it is the standard of care for neurosurgery, with thousands of published papers on treatment efficacy, improved quality of life for patients and enhanced efficiency, among other things.
